It is a generally accepted fact that this tapestry was one of the last made and that it was made by a different weaver. But no one seems to know why. Perhaps it was felt that somethign was missing and a differnt weaver was sent for to fix it but I co uld be wrong.
We know that this was made by a different weaver because the weaving style is different(Cavallo, p 297).
In this tapestry is one of the clues as to who may have owned it. On the fountain is an A and a backwards E. This is the symbol of Anne of Brittany, who was twice queen fo France. How ever there is also an argument that they might stand for Antoine or Antoinette. These are the names of Francois La Rochefoucauld's son and wife. This is a possiblity because of the third tapestry. (Cloisters, p 44)
On the third tapestry appear the letters F and R which have led some scholars to the Rochefoucauld family. (Cloisters, p 44)
The A and E appear again in this tapestry. Also one of the hounds has Writting on his collar which says, or may say, O F[R]ANC[ORUM] RE[X] Which may refer to Louis XII , Husband of Anne.
There is an argument over whether or not this Tapestry is part of the set. Some books I read said it was some said it wasn't. (This is a fragment of the original tapestry.)
In this tapestry appear two figures who are believed to be Queen Anne and King Louis XII. See this Detail of the Tapestry
This is another tapestry that some people do not think is a part of this set.
As you can see there is a great deal of controversy over these tapestries. This largly caused by the fact that the people who made them and owned them are not alive today. This is a major problem with examing artifacts from so long ago.
