Travel Grants for Overseas Educational Advisers
for the 49th Annual NAFSA Conference

May 20-23, 1997, Vancouver, Canada

NAFSA is pleased to offer travel grants to overseas educational advisers who wish to attend the 1997 NAFSA annual conference in Vancouver, Canada, May 20-23. Grants of up to $500 will be awarded to offset travel costs, meals and accommodations, and the conference registration fee. Generous support from Sylvan Prometric makes these grants possible.

To be eligible to apply, individuals must (1) be located at an advising center outside of the United States, (2) devote 50% or more of their time to advising undergraduate and graduate students on study opportunities in the United States, (3) have a minimum of two years of experience in advising, and (4) be a NAFSA individual or institutional member.

Applicants who are scheduled to present in a conference session or workshop or who serve in a NAFSA leadership role related to advising will be given priority for funding.

Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee composed of NAFSA members and staff. Applicants will be assessed on their stated goals for professional and personal growth in international education, a letter of recommendation from their supervisor, and demonstrated financial need. (Please refer to application for further details on application requirements). Due to the large number of applications expected for this program and the limited number of grants available, it is unlikely that more than one applicant from the same advising center will receive funding.

DEADLINE: A completed application form and required attachments must be received at NAFSA by 5pm EST on Friday, March 21, 1997. Applicants will be notified of the selection committeeís decision by March 31. To facilitate communication from overseas, applications may be sent by fax or e-mail. For further information about the travel grant program for overseas advisers, please contact Veronica Malani, Assistant Director, Education and Training (phone: 202/462-4811 ext. 3037; fax: 202-667-3419, e-mail: VeronciaM@NAFSA.org)
