KIRKBRIDE, Wayne A. : Timber (fülszöveg)

Since the armistice that ended the Korean War in 1953, over fifty Americans have been killed in skirmishes in the Demilitarized Zone. During this period, U.S. forces have endured countless incidents, ranging from obscene hand gestures and spitting to machine gun ambushes and physical assaults, in an effort to keep the shaky "peace" that has been in effect for over twenty-five years. This is the true story of the circumstances surrounding one of these incidents.

On 18 August, 1976, a group of American and South Korean soldiers on a certain peaceful mission were shocked when they were suddenly attacked by their North Korean counterparts in the truce village of Panmunjom.

The reaction to this attack – the steps necessary to avoid full-scale war, the all encompassing show of force tactics, the meticulous planning – all resulted in an action that took place on 21 August, 1976, three days later, an action which gave everyone involved, both Americans and South Koreans, at least a modicum of satisfaction.

This is the true story of the circumstances surrounding what is now known as OPERATlON PAUL BUNYAN, written by one of the actual participants. This is now a part of our history.
